Happy Valley, OR — Over the past few months, local unions and labor leaders have shown consistent support for State Representative Janelle Bynum, Democratic candidate for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District.
A recent article from the Capital Chronicle highlighted Bynum’s widespread union support and how these unions make up the majority of workers in Oregon. Melissa Unger, Executive Director of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 503 called Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s claims of union support “misleading.” Unger followed up to say “when it comes to working families, they were represented here today and they’re supporting Janelle Bynum.”
Bynum touts the following union endorsements:
Alliance for Retired Americans
American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Oregon
National Education Association (NEA)
Oregon AFSCME Council 75 (local chapter)
Oregon American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO)
Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals
Oregon Nurses Association (ONA)
Oregon School Employees Association (OSEA)
PCUN, Oregon's Farmworker Union
Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Oregon
United Auto Workers of America (UAW)
United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW)
UNITE Here Local 8
Earlier this cycle the Oregon Capitol Chronicle has reported on Chavez-DeRemer’s hypocrisy when it comes to her labor support, noting that Chavez-DeRemer has repeatedly missed hearings on labor-related issues.
