Today, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek announced her endorsement of State Representative Janelle Bynum in the primary race to take on Lori Chavez-Deremer for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District. Governor Kotek joins Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, Oregon State Treasurer Tobias Read, and over 60 percent of the Oregon House Democrats in endorsing State Representative Bynum.
“Today, I’m excited to endorse Janelle Bynum to be the next Congresswoman from Oregon’s 5th District,” said Governor Kotek. “Who we send to Congress to represent Oregon is incredibly important, especially now when our values are under attack at the federal level. Oregonians deserve a leader who shares their beliefs and puts our families before politics when it matters most. That’s why we need to elect Janelle – a leader with the tenacity, compassion, and commitment to deliver real results for Oregon families. With a bipartisan track record in the state house to prove it – on everything from gun violence prevention and affordable housing initiatives to reproductive rights – Janelle is the type of change we need to see in DC. She’ll give Oregon families the representation they deserve in the halls of Congress.”
“I’m proud to have earned Governor Kotek’s endorsement in this fight for Oregon families,” said State Representative Bynum. “From our time serving together as state representatives to now, Governor Kotek knows that I’ll never shy away from the fight for Oregonians. The last few weeks of chaos and dysfunction have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Republican extremists like Lori Chavez-DeRemer are incapable of governing with our community’s best interests in mind, and our district needs a change. I’m ready to bring Oregonians’ concerns to the forefront on the federal level, focus on delivering the resources my neighbors need, and get Congress working again.”
