Happy Valley, OR — Today, upon Congress avoiding a government shutdown, State Rep. and Democratic congressional candidate Janelle Bynum released the following statement:
“Today, Congress was able to avert a government shutdown because Democrats stood firm against Republicans’ extreme agenda. But Lori Chavez-DeRemer and her colleagues brought us to a precipice we never should have faced in the first place — jeopardizing veterans, law enforcement officers, women, children, seniors, and hard-working Oregonians.
“Republican extremists in Congress should be ashamed of themselves. They’ve made their priorities loud and clear — that politics and power are more important to them than American people.
“My ethos has never changed. As a legislator, when we need to make difficult decisions, I’ll always set aside differences to work with my colleagues and deliver for my community. Leadership should never be about pleasing party bosses and side shows.
“Oregon deserves better than Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and I’m committed to providing just that.”
While Bynum has been calling for bipartisanship and pragmatic leadership in the face of Republican dysfunction, Chavez-DeRemer voted in favor of a bill that would have slashed funding for the FBI and the DEA, critical infrastructure projects, health clinics, wildfire prevention, and many more critical resources in Oregon.
