Happy Valley, OR — Today, Oregon state Rep. and Democratic congressional candidate Janelle Bynum announced she earned the endorsements of Oregon State Treasurer Tobias Read, Oregon House of Representatives Speaker Dan Rayfield, Oregon House of Representatives Majority Leader Julie Fahey, state Sen. Lew Frederick, state Sen. Kayse Jama, former state Sen. Margaret Carter, former state Sen. Avel Gordley, former state Sen. Bob Boyer, and former state Rep. Brian Clem.
“I’m excited to support my friend Janelle Bynum for Congress,” Read said. “Throughout her entire career, Janelle has always put people before politics to deliver real, sustained change in our communities and go the extra mile to ensure people are heard. When service calls, Janelle always answers — she is the best choice for Oregon’s 5th congressional district.”
“Oregon needs an effective leader who will never back down from a challenge and solve the most critical issues facing our communities,” Rayfield said. “I’ve seen that resolve in my friend and colleague Janelle Bynum, whose determination has helped us support critical housing development, enhance mental health services, and address the climate crisis. She has been an excellent partner when it comes to advancing common-sense legislation, and she will continue to be an excellent partner in Congress.”
“In our seven years serving together in the Oregon state legislature, Janelle Bynum has proven to be deeply compassionate, knowledgeable , and honest.” Fahey said. “In Congress Janelle will be a champion for working families, women and children, and will defend reproductive freedom, support small businesses, and improve public education. I can’t wait to see her get to work on day one.”
“I’m honored to earn the support of State Treasurer Tobias Read, Oregon House Speaker Dan Rayfield, Majority Leader Julie Fahey, my colleagues and former elected leaders,” Bynum said. “Oregon is well served by their esteemed leadership, and I value their partnership in ensuring our communities thrive and paying opportunity forward for our future generations. I’m looking forward to continuing to work together.”
Previously, Bynum announced endorsements from Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, and New Dem Action Fund. She now has support from 21 Oregon state house members and five Oregon state senators. Bynum now has the support of over 60 percent of the Oregon House Democrats.
OR-05 is a top priority for Democrats, and represents a critical opportunity to flip the U.S. House blue. Bynum is uniquely positioned to defeat Chavez-DeRemer, having bested her in 2016 and 2018.
