Happy Valley, OR — State Representative and Democratic candidate for Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District Janelle Bynum’s campaign continues to ride a wave of momentum as her campaign increasingly gains traction. During the last two weeks Bynum has secured key new endorsements, including a powerful nod from The Oregonian, released her first television ad, “Family Meeting,” engaged in back-to-back candidate forums and announced impressive first quarter fundraising numbers.

“With the primary election just four weeks away, it’s never been more clear that Janelle Bynum is igniting a movement to unseat failed Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer, fueled by an outpouring of unprecedented Democratic support, a surging wave of fundraising momentum, and an electrified voter base ready to flip this critical seat for House Democrats, said Blakely Wall, campaign manager.

New Endorsement Marks 20 Previous Supporters of McLeod-Skinner Endorsing Bynum

This week Bynum picked up key new endorsements including 314 Action, which called her “the best candidate to flip the district blue”. Their support marks the 20th endorser of McLeod-Skinner in her previous bid for the 5th Congressional District to back Bynum, because they know Bynum is the only candidate who can beat Lori Chavez-DeRemer this November.

Exceeding Fundraising Goals: Leading the Pack in Q1

First-quarter fundraising filings showed that Janelle Bynum raised a total of $502,000, more than double the amount of her Democratic primary opponent, Jamie McLeod-Skinner, who reported a total of $194,000. Bynum also has $560,000 cash on hand, a $247,000 advantage over McLeod-Skinner’s $313,000, further highlighting her growing momentum in the race.

“Democrats’ best pick” – The Oregonian Strongly Endorses Janelle Bynum

The Oregonian issued a strong endorsement of Bynum, emphasizing Bynum’s unique ability to beat Republican incumbent Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer: “Whoever secures the Democratic nomination to face Chavez-DeRemer, will need to appeal far beyond the Democratic party to win over the district’s non-affiliated voters – who outnumber both Democrats and Republicans. Democrats’ best option is to bet on Bynum succeeding a third time.”

Engaging Directly with Oregonians Through Multiple Debates and Forums

Last week, Bynum participated in two critical debates and spoke directly with Oregonians about her campaign. At the League of Women Voters Forum and the Clackamas County Democrats’ Candidate Forum, she highlighted her accomplishments, priorities, and strong base of support, positioning herself as the best candidate to defeat incumbent Republican Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer this November.

Broadcasting “Family Meeting” Across Oregon Airwaves

Bynum launched her first television ad, titled "Family Meeting," that emphasizes her track record of protecting workers, advocating for flexible scheduling, and fighting for equal pay. The ad highlights her commitment to holding CEOs accountable for price gouging to lower housing and grocery costs, all to make life a little easier for Oregonians.
