Happy Valley, OR — State Representative Janelle Bynum, Democratic candidate for Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, will participate in three separate debates over the next week against Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer in both Bend and Portland. On the heels of her record-breaking fundraising totals for Q3, Bynum will discuss her strong record of standing up for Oregonians in the state legislature and her priorities in Congress.
“Over the next three debates, voters will see the clear contrast between Janelle Bynum, who has a long career of standing up for Oregonians and Lori Chavez-DeRemer who has abandoned Oregonians for MAGA extremists in Washington,” said Blakely Wall, Campaign Manager for Bynum for Congress. “Bynum will discuss her commitment to protecting a woman's right to choose, keeping families safe, and lowering costs while Chavez- DeRemer will fail to explain her record of stripping back reproductive rights and supporting a 34-count felon for president.”
The first televised debate will happen tonight, on October 8, 2024 on KOIN in Portland, followed by a televised debate on October 10, 2024 on KTVZ in Bend, and a multi-media and televised debate on October 15, 2024 through Central Oregon Daily.
Bynum’s campaign raised $3.4 million in Q3. The total is the highest quarterly fundraising total in state history - House or Senate. Two recent polls show Bynum leading Chavez-DeRemer by two points. The latest poll found Bynum leading with women voters and households with a union member. Recently, National Journal listed Oregon’s 5th Congressional District in the top 10 congressional races most likely to flip in 2024, jumping up 8 spots after State Rep. Janelle Bynum’s strong primary win “instantly making this seat a top offensive opportunity for the party.”
